By Dave Simpson (October 6, 2021, 9:18 p.m. EDT) – Network security firm Cloudflare has beaten claims by clothing companies that it is aiding copyright infringement by providing web services to counterfeit retailers selling fake dresses, after a California federal judge ruled Wednesday, based on the evidence presented, Cloudflare does not materially contribute to the alleged infringement.
U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria granted summary judgment to Cloudflare Inc. in the contribution copyright infringement action of Mon Cheri Bridals LLC and Maggie Sottero Designs LLC, noting that simply providing services to an infringer of copyright is not considered a material contribution.
