Harding University dedicates memorial to Botham Jean

SEARCY, Ark. – Harding University announced Thursday that it will honor the life of Botham Jean by unveiling a memorial in his honor.

The memorial to her will stand in front of the David B. Burks Heritage Building.

A dedication ceremony, open to the public, is scheduled for Jean’s birthday on Wednesday September 29 at 1 p.m.

Jean was a 2016 University of Saint Lucia alumnus who was tragically killed on September 6, 2018 at his home in Dallas.

While at Harding, he was a member of the Good News Singers, resident assistant, intern for the Rock House Campus Ministry, and leader of the Sub T-16 men’s social club. He was well known for his charismatic and powerful leadership.

“Botham was a unique and influential leader on our campus,” said university president David Burks. “I loved his smile, the way he led chanting in chapel and church, and his enthusiasm for life. I believe the memorial will help generations remember Botham John and his Christ influence. “

In addition to the monument, two scholarships were created in 2019 and are awarded annually in memory of Jean.
