Memoirs and Biographies of Famous Children’s Book Authors “Adafruit Industries – Makers, Hackers, Artists, Designers and Engineers!”

Fantastic list of Carrie McBride and the NYPL! As an adult, one of the great pleasures of finishing a book is jumping on Google to research the author and learning a bit more about his life by taking a quick look at his wiki page, reading a profile magazine or, on rare occasions – locate a documentary or book to dive even deeper into the details. As a child, I don’t remember the same impulse being present (it’s possible the technology just wasn’t there, really there? Are we google everything now? Hard to know with certainty). Anyway, as a parent, I now have the chance to revisit children’s books I loved growing up and share them with my own children. This time I will take the time to find out more about the authors of these books and use the NYPL list as a guide – starting with The Story of Charlotte’s Web: EB White’s Eccentric Lives in the Wild and the Birth of an American Classic by Michael Sims.

Children’s book authors create some of our earliest fantasy worlds and we can forget that they live in the real world and have their own stories of struggle, survival, adventure, loss and success. These memoirs, autobiographies and biographies of famous authors – who wrote beloved picture books, bestselling series, gripping teen novels, and more (not to mention creating some of the most Memorable Literature) – take you behind the pages and into their interesting lives and careers.
