Music, arts, book clubs on the Mattapoisett Library program in May

MATTAPOISETT – The Mattapoisett Public Library is hosting a series of events in May for teens and adults.

Singer-songwriter Matt York brings “Songs & Stories of The Highwaymen” to the library at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3. He will perform the songs of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings.

Weaver Lisa Elliott will demonstrate her loom in two informal sessions on Wednesday, May 4 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 15 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Come see her use a portable loom to create colorful textiles.

The Sustainability Interest Group meets at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 7. The group will decide on an official name and start advertising for artists to participate in an art exhibition on recycled materials, “RE-Art”, to be held at the library during the last week of August .

The Teen Advisory Council meets at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10. Interested teens can contact Jennifer Jones at [email protected] join. The group will help shape summer programming for teens and come up with new ideas for volunteering and library services.

The Cookbook Club meets on Tuesday May 17 to discussAt Home with Madhur Jaffrey” by Madhur Jaffrey. Copies of the cookbook are available at the library. The group meets in person and a virtual option is available.

The Purrington Lecture Series presents Larksgrove, a duo featuring EmmaLee Holmes-Hicks on violin and Peter Zay on cello, at 1 p.m. Friday, May 20.

This time is one hour earlier than previously displayed. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch to the library and take a break while listening to the spring concert.

The Sunday Book Club discusses “The Magnolia Palace” by Fiona Davis this month. New members are always welcome. Copies are available for collection at the library.

The group is meeting in person and a virtual option is available at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 22. This is the last Sunday the library will be open until hours resume on Sunday, September 11.
