We have 15 active book clubs at Quail Ridge Books. Although a few clubs are currently on hiatus due to the pandemic, most meet by Zoom, or, occasionally, in an outdoor space, although the weather last winter was not good for that! Some have been together for decades
while others are fairly new. Everyone had great discussions and welcomed new members. We recently asked several of them to make a list of their favorite books and I’ll be sharing them over the next few weeks. Maybe you will find the next book you need to read! If you want to join any of the clubs, please feel free to email me and I will forward it to the moderator of that club.
The first club to highlight came together shortly after the store opened in 1984. From moderator Jane Broden:
“We are the Quail Ridge Book Club and we are proud of the name; I believe we have that title because we were the first book club in the store. The QRB Book Club meets on the last Sunday of the month at 4:30 p.m. to discuss a current popular work of fiction or non-fiction. We continued to meet via zoom during the pandemic. We have members who have joined us in the past two years and we have members who have been with us for over twenty years! “
Here are our most popular books:
Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson
A man called Ove by Fredrik Backman
Emmett Till’s blood by Timothy B. Tyson
A gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles
Every August we read a selection of Shakespeare and Reid Barbour, professor of English and Comparative Literature at UNC Chapel Hill who brings us to life!
