A woman has gone viral on TikTok after revealing she was hospitalized with sepsis and cellulitis after wearing too tight denim shorts and giving her a wedgie.
Last month Sam, 25, from North Carolina, who goes by @imtoooldtobeonthis on TikTok, shared her story in a video on the platform, where she revealed the health issues started as a result. of an “eight hour wedgie” on a date three years ago.
“Wearing tight shorts on one of my first dates with my boyfriend and having a wedgie for eight hours. Then having a sore butt for a few days,” Sam began the video, before recalling how she started. to feel sick after a few days and decided to go to the doctor, at which point she was given antibiotics for a “possible” skin infection “” in the area of her buttocks.
However, according to Sam, the antibiotics didn’t help, as she said the next day that she felt “horrible”, was in “the worst throbbing pain” and couldn’t walk, so she went to the emergency room.
Speaking to BuzzFeed, Sam recalled how a big bump appeared where the irritation to her outfit had occurred, and that “over time it started to get more painful” and the ” pain was isolated in one place and it was like a throbbing, throbbing “.
“He’s admitted to the ICU and the doc says I have sepsis and cellulitis,” Sam continued in TikTok. Sepsis, which can be life threatening, occurs when “the body’s response to infection damages its own tissues,” according to the Mayo Clinic, while cellulitis is “a potentially serious bacterial skin infection” that can cause swelling. and pain.
“I was shaking, very short of breath, couldn’t walk and had extreme body aches,” Sam told the outlet. “They admitted me to the ICU, and that’s when I realized it was a little more serious than I had expected.”
In the video, Sam then recalled how she had to spend a week in the intensive care unit, where doctors informed her that they may have to remove the infected part of her back with debridement surgery, and that ‘she had to “constantly” [her] a ** to doctors every day ”.
According to the 25-year-old, she ultimately did not have to have surgery, but joked that she “suffered trauma” when her mother took selfies of her while she was taking selfies. was sleeping in her hospital bed, which she then showed in the TIC Tac.
In a follow-up video, Sam showed off the denim shorts she wore to her date and noted that she also wore short boy’s underwear, which had contributed to her wedgie throughout the daytime. While she said that she had “chosen” the wedgie, the choice of clothes ended up irritating her skin.
Sam’s video has since been viewed over 8.1 million times, with many viewers sharing their fear of the story, while others revealed that they had encountered similar issues because of the clothes.
“I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one with chronic and dangerous cellulitis from clothing,” one person commented.
Another said: “It happened to me because I wore spandex everyday for weights and football in high school. I’m glad I’m not the only one.
And while Sam said her doctors couldn’t confirm that her shorts and underwear that went up and caused a wedgie were 100% the cause of her medical problems, she told BuzzFeed that seemed to be the only explanation. logic.
As to why Sam shared her story, she told the outlet she did because she thought it would be funny and because it “reminds people that we are all human and we live things. strange, and that is nothing to be ashamed of “.
“Most people were shocked that this could happen, BUT I was extremely surprised at how many people said the same had happened to them too! ” she said. “I’m glad I made the TikTok, and while it is extremely scary to have one of the most embarrassing things that has ever happened to me on the internet, it reminds people that we are all human and that we let’s go through strange things, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. “
She also revealed that her date visited her in intensive care and that they were still together three years later.
